U.S. Supreme Court Overturns Violent Video Game Sales Ruling (TTWO) (ERTS) (ATVI)

June 27, 2011 11:19 AM EDT
Video game stocks saw a pop Monday morning following a favorable ruling from the U.S. Supreme Court over violent video games.

The Court voted 7 to 2 to turn down a ruling in California which prohibited the sale of violent video games to minors.

The proposed law placed violent video games as akin to sexual materials, and suggested such crimes should be treated that way. The government can restrict sexual materials to protect children.

Two industry groups, which include members like Microsoft (Nasdaq: MSFT), Electronic Arts (Nasdaq: ERTS), Sony (NYSE: SNE), and Take-Two Interactive (Nasdaq: TTWO), challenged the law.

Electronic Arts shares are just about flat mid-day, Take-Two is up 2 percent, and Activision (Nasdaq: ATVI) is 1.1 percent better.
