Before its even officially announced, rivals are already trying to take some steam from Apple's proposed 'iWatch' wearable smartphone
Reports out Friday have Google (Nasdaq: GOOG) planning to make a new watch-like device. News comes as Google is also trying to launch its Google Glass computer, which puts a heads-up display in front of the user at all times.
Both reports are pure speculation, though the Financial Times did cite its information as coming from an insider briefing. Last year, Google received approval for a "smart watch" with dual-screen "flip-up" display, "tactile interface" (touch screen), and camera approved.
Earlier in the week, it was reported that Apple rival Samsung has also been working on a "smart watch."
"We've been preparing the watch product for so long," Lee Young Hee, executive vice president of Samsung's mobile business, told Bloomberg during an interview in Seoul. "We are working very hard to get ready for it. We are preparing products for the future, and the watch is definitely one of them."
Apple and Google are both indicated for a higher open Friday.
