Ribbon Communications to help MGW modernize rural Virginia network

Ribbon Communications Inc. (Nasdaq: RBBN) announced it is working with MGW Telephone, a Virginia-based incumbent local exchange carrier, to modernize its network infrastructure and support broadband expansion under the federal BEAD program.

MGW is deploying Ribbon's Circuit Emulation Services and NPT aggregation router platform to migrate from a legacy time-division multiplexing network to an all-IP environment. The company says the transition is intended to reduce costs associated with older infrastructure while adding automation, higher capacity, and support for new services.

"Their carrier-grade solutions provide a scalable foundation for continued expansion and the introduction of new services and technologies."

MGW Telephone describes itself as a third-generation ILEC serving communities across Virginia. The partnership is intended to support the company's participation in BEAD-funded broadband deployment targeting rural customers in the state.

Elizabeth Page, Senior Sales Director at Ribbon, said the company aims to help service providers build networks with long-term flexibility to support residential, business, and other connectivity needs.
