Energy Transfer LP (NYSE: ET) announced an expansion of its Nederland NGL Export Terminal that will add 240,000 barrels per day (bpd) of ethane export capacity and 55,000 bpd of additional LPG capacity.
All of the new ethane export capacity has been committed under long-term agreements extending into the 2040s. Since Energy Transfer began exporting ethane from the Nederland facility in 2021, the company has exported over 430 million barrels.
As part of the expansion, Energy Transfer will also increase pipeline capacity on its Mont Belvieu to Nederland NGL export line and construct two additional NGL ship docks. The company's previously announced expansion of refrigerated propane and butane storage tanks to 1.2 million barrels and 0.8 million barrels, respectively, is expected to be available in the first half of 2027.
The expansion project is expected to come online in stages beginning in 2028. Following the anticipated completion of the additional docks in mid-2029, refrigerated NGL export capacity at Nederland is projected to exceed 1.25 million bpd. Combined with the Marcus Hook NGL Export Facility's capacity of 420,000 bpd following its own expansion expected in mid-2027, Energy Transfer's total refrigerated NGL export capacity would reach approximately 1.7 million bpd.
The company claims its existing and planned storage assets represent the largest refrigerated storage capacity for ethane, propane, and butane of any export complex on the U.S. Gulf Coast.
