Aurion Biotech names Dr. Marjan Farid as medical advisory board chair
Aurion Biotech, Inc. appointed Dr. Marjan Farid as chair of its medical advisory board, the regenerative cell therapy company announced. Dr. Farid serves as Director of Cornea, Cataract, and Refractive Surgery and Clinical Professor at the Gavin Herbert Eye Institute at the University of California-Irvine.
Dr. Farid chairs the Cornea Clinical Committee of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery and established the UCI Severe Ocular Surface Disease Program. She serves on the Leadership Committee at ASCRS and has published research in ophthalmology while editing medical publications including "Steinert's Cataract Surgery" and "In-Office Corneal Procedures."
"Aurion welcomes a deeply respected clinical leader whose unique experience and leadership will bring critical insights to guide the company through the next stage of development and beyond," said Edward J. Holland, Chief Medical Officer at Aurion Biotech.
Aurion operates as a commercial-stage company in Japan and is conducting Phase 3 development in the United States for AURN001, a cell therapy treatment for corneal endothelial disease. The company launched Vyznova in Japan in 2024 as the first commercially available cell therapy for corneal endothelial disease in that market.
Alcon acquired majority ownership of Aurion Biotech in 2025, according to the company statement.
