OTTAWA, May 10 (Reuters) - Canada's economy gained a net 90,400 jobs in April, both in full-time and part-time work, and the jobless rate held at 6.1%, Statistics Canada data showed on Friday.

Employment in the goods producing sector fell by a net 10,400 jobs, largely in construction. The services sector was up by a net 100,700 positions, mostly in professional, scientific and technical services, as well as accommodation and food services.

Georgia to push ahead with foreign agent bill despite 'misled' protesters, PM says May 10, 2024 08:24AM

TBILISI (Reuters) - Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze said on Friday that the government would push ahead with the bill on "foreign agents" despite opposition from what he cast as "misled" youngsters who feel resentment towards Russia.

Death toll from floods in southern Brazil hits 113 May 10, 2024 08:20AM

SAO PAULO (Reuters) - The death toll from heavy rains in Brazil's Rio Grande do Sul state has climbed to 113, local civil defense said on Friday, up from 107 in the previous day, while another 146 people were still unaccounted for.

Storms and floods battering the South American country's southernmost state, home to some 10.9 million people, have also left more than 337,000 displaced.

Ukraine expects energy deficit to rise in summer due to Russian attacks May 10, 2024 08:12AM

Polish farmers march against 'green poison' EU climate change rules May 10, 2024 08:07AM

WARSAW (Reuters) - Thousands of protesters marched through the streets of the Polish capital Warsaw on Friday to show their opposition to European Union environmental regulations that farmers say are driving them out of business.

Farmers were joined by representatives of other branches of the Solidarity trade union, which organised the protest, such as miners and workers from the automotive sector.
