Dow futures trade higher; Lowe's leads off more retail earnings

Investing.com -- U.S. stock futures edged higher Tuesday, as investors attempted to build on the momentum of the previous session ahead of more earnings from major retailers.

By 06:30 ET (10:30 GMT), the Dow Futures contract was up 80 points, or 0.2%, S&P 500 Futures traded 20 points, or 0.4%, higher and Nasdaq 100 Futures climbed 87 points, or 0.6%.

The main equities indices closed in a mixed fashion Monday, with the blue-chip Dow Jones Industrial Average dropping slightly, while the broad-based S&P 500 gained 0.7%.

NEW YORK (Reuters) - The Dow and S&P 500 ended slightly lower on Tuesday as investors stayed worried the Federal Reserve will keep interest rates higher for longer and as banks shares eased.

The Nasdaq finished barely in the green.

The financial sector fell 0.9% and was the biggest drag on the S&P 500. An S&P downgrade of credit ratings of multiple regional U.S. lenders weighed on banks shares, with the KBW regional banking index sliding 2.7% and the S&P 500 banks index falling 2.4%.

Investing.com -- President Jerome Powell is set to potentially deliver fresh clues on monetary policy later this week, but while many arent expecting the Fed chief's remarks to be laced with the warning of the pain from last year, there are worries that he may tee up the idea of steeper longer-term interest rates.
