NEW YORK (Reuters) - U.S. stocks ended up sharply on Wednesday, with the S&P 500 and Nasdaq gaining more than 1% each as investors were optimistic ahead of an inflation report that could give the Federal Reserve room to dial back on its aggressive interest rate hikes.
The much-anticipated report due on Thursday is projected by economists polled by Reuters to show U.S. consumer prices grew 6.5% year-on-year in December, moderating from a 7.1% rise in November.
Among sectors, real estate and consumer discretionary were the day's strongest performers, while Microsoft, Amazon.com and... More

But the high profile, as well as signals from markets and some economists of a coming recession,... More

Global economies expected to slow sharply in 2023 amid inflation, World Bank says
January 10, 2023 4:32 PM ESTBy Liz Moyer
Investing.com -- The global economy will slow this year as high inflation keeps alive the risk of a recession, according to the latest assessment by the World Bank.
Global growth is forecast to slow to 1.7% this year, after estimating last June that it would grow at a 3% rate in 2023.
The lower rate, if it comes to pass, would make this year among the weakest years for growth in three decades, ranking third worst after only the... More
Berenberg believes value will continue to perform in 2023
January 10, 2023 3:59 PM ESTBerenberg analyst Edward Abbott told investors the firm is looking for value leadership in 2023.
The analyst explained that the tough backdrop in 2022 that resulted in a broad sell-off across markets meant value beat growth.
