First-quarter 2019 net income of $695 million, or $4.22 per share, compared with a net loss of $31 million, or 19 cents per share, in the first quarter of 2018. $52 million or 43% increase in non-GAAP operating income* to $172 million, or $1.05 per share, compared with $120 million, or 72 cents per share, in the first quarter of last year. $726 million increase in first-quarter 2019 net income, primarily due to the after-tax net effect of a $674 million increase in net investment gains and a $49 million increase in after-tax...
