Alibaba goes offline with $2.9 billion stake in China's top grocer

BEIJING (Reuters) - Internet giant Alibaba Group Holding Ltd (NYSE: BABA) said on Monday it would invest HK$22.4 billion ($2.87 billion) for a major stake in China's top hypermart operator, Sun Art Retail Group Ltd , part of a wider push into offline retail.

Investors yank $6.8 billion from high yield bonds, third largest outflows: BAML

LONDON (Reuters) - Investors pulled $6.8 billion from high yield bond funds over the past week, their third largest outflows on record, Bank of America Merrill Lynch (BAML) said on Friday, as the sell off in junk debt accelerated.
High yield bonds have returned around 8.6 percent this year, with European junk bonds delivering almost 19 percent, but over the last few weeks investors have been banking gains rather than loading up on more debt.

Barnes & Noble says investor's plan to take it private not 'bona fide'
November 16, 2017 1:43 PM EST(Reuters) - Barnes & Noble Inc (NYSE: BKS) said on Thursday a deal proposed by an activist investor to take the bookstore chain private was not "bona fide" as its chairman and founder, Leonard Riggio, would not participate and raising the required funds was highly unlikely.
Sandell Asset Management had proposed to take Barnes & Noble private with the help of current shareholders and $500 million in debt financing in a deal that valued the company at more than $650 million, or over $9 per share, the Wall Street Journal reported earlier, citing people familiar with the matter.

(Reuters) - Best Buy Co Inc (NYSE: BBY) took a $100 million hit in the third quarter from the late launch of the iPhone X and gave a profit forecast for the holiday period that fell short of analysts' estimates, as it competes in a brutal U.S. retail market.
The United States' largest electronics chain raised its revenue guidance for the full year and said earnings in the crucial fourth quarter when U.S. consumers spend the most would be $1.89 to $1.99 per share, roughly flat from a year earlier.

CHICAGO (Reuters) - Wal-Mart Stores Inc (NYSE: WMT) reported better-than-expected U.S. comparable sales on Thursday, as customers stocked up on food and other supplies ahead of hurricanes and online purchases soared, sending its shares up more than 8.5 percent.
