Qualcomm to buy NXP for $38 billion in biggest chip deal

(Reuters) - Smartphone chipmaker Qualcomm Inc (NASDAQ: QCOM) agreed to buy NXP Semiconductors NV (NASDAQ: NXPI) for about $38 billion in the biggest-ever deal in the semiconductor industry, making it the leading supplier to the fast-growing automotive chips market.
The acquisition will also help Qualcomm, which provides chips to Android smartphone makers and Apple Inc (NASDAQ: AAPL), reduce its dependence on a cooling smartphone market.

October 27, 2016 6:31 AM EDTQualcomm Incorporated (NASDAQ: QCOM) and NXP Semiconductors N.V. (NASDAQ: NXPI) today announced a definitive agreement, unanimously approved by the boards of directors of both companies, under which Qualcomm will acquire NXP. Pursuant to the agreement, a subsidiary of Qualcomm will commence a tender offer to acquire all of the issued and outstanding common shares of NXP for $110.00 per share in cash, representing a total enterprise value of approximately $47 billion.
