Moody's Affirms Pfizer's (PFE) Ratings Amid Decision Not to Split Company
September 26, 2016 2:12 PM EDTMoody's Investors Service ("Moody's") affirmed the ratings of Pfizer Inc. (NYSE: PFE) and related subsidiaries, including the A1 senior unsecured long-term rating and the Prime-1 commercial paper rating. At the same time, Moody's revised the rating outlook to stable from negative. This rating action follows the announcement that Pfizer will not pursue a split of its pharmaceutical business.
"Pfizer's decision to keep the business whole removes a key overhang to the credit profile because a split had credit negative implications," stated Michael Levesque, Moody's Senior Vice President.

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Pfizer Inc (NYSE: PFE), which was considering splitting itself for more than two years, said on Monday it would not do so, prompting shareholders to expect more deals that could bolster its roster of new medicines.
The largest U.S. drugmaker said its lengthy analysis determined that splitting off its low-growth generics from its patent-protected branded products would not boost cash flow or better position the businesses competitively. Pfizer (PFE) Won't Pursue Split

(NYSE: PFE) announced that, after an extensive evaluation, the companys Board of Directors and Executive Leadership Team have determined the company is best positioned to maximize future shareholder value creation in its current structure and will not pursue splitting Pfizer Innovative Health and Pfizer Essential Health into two, separate publicly traded companies at this time.
