Staples forecasts fifteenth straight quarterly sales decline
August 17, 2016 6:16 AM EDT(Reuters) - Staples Inc (NASDAQ: SPLS), the biggest U.S. office supplies retailer, forecast its 15th straight quarter of declining sales as it closes stores in the face of intensifying competition.
The company and former merger partner Office Depot Inc (NASDAQ: ODP) are struggling to compete with Wal-Mart Stores Inc (NYSE: WMT) and Amazon.com Inc (NASDAQ: AMZN) at a time when people are using less stationery.

August 17, 2016 6:04 AM EDTStaples (Nasdaq: SPLS) reported Q2 EPS of $0.12, in-line with the analyst estimate of $0.12. Revenue for the quarter came in at $4.8 billion versus the consensus estimate of $4.78 billion.
