(Reuters) - Twitter Inc (NYSE: TWTR) may be counting on Moments to drive growth, but the moment for celebrating a turnaround still looks far off.

Anyone hoping that Chief Executive Jack Dorsey's plans to boost growth would have had a big impact on third-quarter results would have been disappointed.

Twitter reported both anemic user growth for the three months to Sept. 30 and offered up a tepid revenue forecast for the current quarter on Tuesday.

(Reuters) - U.S. stocks ended sharply higher on Wednesday after a volatile session as the Federal Reserve gave a vote of confidence in the U.S. economy by signaling a December interest rate hike was still on the table.

Twitter (NYSE: TWTR) reported Q3 EPS of $0.10, $0.05 better than the analyst estimate of $0.05. Revenue for the quarter came in at $569 million versus the consensus estimate of $559.59 million.

Monthly Active Users Total average Monthly Active Users (MAUs) were 320 million for the third quarter, up 11% year-over-year, and compared to 316 million in the previous quarter. Excluding SMS Fast Followers, MAUs were 307 million for the third quarter, up 8% year-over-year, and compared to 304 million in the previous quarter. (Reuters) - U.S. stocks slipped on Tuesday on uncertainty over the U.S. rate outlook and disappointing results from Ford and other companies.

Upbeat results from Apple (NASDAQ: AAPL) after hours, however, could give the market a boost on Wednesday.

Shares of Apple, the biggest company by market capitalization, rose 2.8 percent to $116.89 after it reported higher-than-expected earnings and revenue. Apple's stock ended the regular session down 0.6 percent at $114.55.
