RBC Capital Sees Attractive Risk/Reward in Zafgen (ZFGN)

RBC Capital analyst Simos Simeonidis lowered his price target on Zafgen (NASDAQ: ZFGN) to $20.00 (from $46.00) but maintained an Outperform rating after the company announced on Friday that FDA has placed beloranib on partial clinical hold given that the recent patient death in the trial was on the drug arm.

Simeonidis said while the news obviously adds significant risk, they believe that ZFGN shares are now at levels that represent attractive risk/reward.

Zafgen (NASDAQ: ZFGN) announced that it received verbal notice late yesterday from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) that beloranib has been placed on partial clinical hold. This partial clinical hold impacts ongoing or planned clinical trials, including ZAF-311 and ZAF-312. A partial clinical hold is an order that the FDA issues to delay or suspend part of a sponsors clinical work requested under its investigational new drug (IND) application.
