According to rougecode.co.za, which is a blog run by a Windows Phone developer, Microsoft's (Nasdaq: MSFT) mobile traction in South Africa appears to be gaining. Developer Matt Cavanagh commented:
Cavanagh said South Africa accounted for about 6 percent of his total downloads, which weren't disclosed.
We've included the graph below, but is an interesting read. South Africa recently reported having a population around 52 million.
Shares of Microsoft are up 1 percent Friday.

I don’t often look at my sales stats as most of my self-published apps are just little experiments. But I took a look today and decided to set the filter to South Africa ... it pretty clearly shows how downloads were pretty dead until the end of 2012, and have been consistently rising since then. Turns out that WP8 launched around that time in South Africa.
