Ford Motor Co. (NYSE: F) CEO Alan Mulally is the front-runner to succeed Steve Ballmer as Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT) CEO, according to reports Thursday evening from AllThingsD.
The news comes just weeks after Mulally denied rumblings of such a move.
Mulally was previously the CEO of Boeing Commercial Airplanes in the Seattle, near where Microsoft is based and has been a close advisor to Ballmer.
Initially, Nokia's Stephen Elop was seen as a shoe-in for the job after Microsoft acquired the device unit of Nokia earlier in the month, however, now board attention has turned to Mulally.
