Apple (AAPL) May be Back on Track with Launch of Next-Gen iPad

April 9, 2013 8:20 AM EDT
Apple (Nasdaq: AAPL) traditionally released the next version of its iPad tablet within the first few months of the year, though that logic was challenged in 2012 when the company began selling new iPad models in March and November. But, Apple might return to its old ways sooner than later.

Digitimes says volume production of the latest Apple tablet will begin in July and/or August, potentially setting up for a launch in September or October. The biggest concern on the next-gen tablet will be touch panel yield rates, which largely hampered sales of Apple's iPhone 5 last year.

The next iPad will be thinner and lighter, while taking styling cues from the iPad mini in sporting a thinner bezel. Panel size is expected to remain the same 9.7-inch measure, sources said. LG Display (NYSE: LPL) and Sharp will be in cahoots for panel display.

Shares of Apple are indicated higher Tuesday morning.
