Apple (Nasdaq: AAPL) appears to be making even more headway in China.
Beijing-based Umeng Analytics Platform, cited by SiliconBeat, said that Apple iPad and iPad mini device sales represented 83 percent of the tablet sales in China. Google (Nasdaq: GOOG) Android-based tablets took in just 17 percent of the market.
One Umeng Analytics analyst noted that people really just think about an iPad when they become interested in buying a tablet. Android just isn't getting any traction.
More than that, smartphone and tablet sales are taking off as a whole in China. Activations of 9.2 million iOS and Android devices at the start of FY12 popped to 33 million per month by the end of the year. Total active users in China is estimated at about 245 million.
Samsung dominates the smartphone market in China, though share slipped 7 points last quarter to 21 percent as more Chinese consumers turned to domestic brands like Lenovo.
Shares of Apple are lower in early trading Monday.
