XBiotech names co-CEOs as Simard joins Shivaswamy in leadership

XBiotech Inc. (NASDAQ: XBIT) announced that its board of directors has elected Jan-Paul Simard as Co-Chief Executive Officer, effective Oct. 23, 2026, to serve alongside Dr. Sushma Shivaswamy, who retains her CEO role.

Dr. Shivaswamy has been with the Austin, Texas-based biosciences company for 17 years, holding roles including Senior Scientist, Director, and Vice President of Research & Development before becoming Chief Scientific Officer in 2017. She was named interim CEO in December 2025 following the retirement of founder John Simard.

Jan-Paul Simard joined XBiotech in 2012 as an R&D assistant and moved to the clinical development team in 2020, where he contributed to study design and protocol development across clinical trials covering pancreatic cancer, non-small cell lung cancer, osteoarthritis, and rheumatoid arthritis. He is also pursuing a degree in Chemistry with Honours at the University of Saskatchewan.
