KBR (NYSE: KBR) has been awarded contracts to revamp two ammonia plants owned by AGF Nitrogen, through its affiliated companies SKWP in Germany and LAT Nitrogen in Austria, according to a press release.
Under the contracts, KBR will support the revamp of LAT Nitrogen's 550 metric ton per day (MTPD) ammonia plant in Linz, Austria, and SKWP's 1,900 MTPD ammonia plant in Lutherstadt Wittenberg, Germany. The Germany contract builds on proprietary engineering work awarded to KBR in March 2026.
For both plants, KBR will provide technology licensing, post-BED services, process equipment, and catalyst supply. The Germany project also includes back-end modifications and a new ammonia converter. KBR will modernize the steam reforming sections at both facilities using its proprietary KBR Reforming Exchange System (KRES) technology.
The revamps are intended to reduce natural gas consumption, improve energy efficiency, and lower CO₂ emissions at both sites.
"These awards demonstrate how KBR's deep ammonia expertise and differentiated technologies can help customers improve the efficiency and performance of existing plants while reducing their carbon footprint," said Jay Ibrahim, President of KBR Sustainable Technology Solutions.
AGF Nitrogen is a wholly owned subsidiary of AGROFERT, a.s., and is described as Europe's second-largest fertilizer producer, with annual production capacity of over 7 million tons of fertilizer and more than 3.5 million tons of ammonia, and annual turnover of €2.3 billion.
