Jaguar Health, Inc. (NASDAQ: JAGX) announced that its subsidiary Napo Pharmaceuticals has been providing crofelemer powder for oral solution to an infant patient with congenital sodium diarrhea (CSD) caused by a GUCY2C gene mutation, a condition that results in intestinal failure (IF).
According to the company, liquid oral crofelemer therapy reduced the patient's daily parenteral support (PS) needs by approximately 15% within the first several weeks of treatment, with no significant clinical or laboratory abnormalities reported. Parenteral support, which can require up to 20 or more hours per day and up to seven days per week, is associated with serious and sometimes fatal complications.
CSD due to GUCY2C mutation is the third IF-related congenital enteropathy being evaluated under expanded access for crofelemer, alongside microvillus inclusion disease (MVID) and short bowel syndrome (SBS-IF). In one MVID patient, weekly PS requirements normalized to body weight were reduced by up to 48% after more than 12 months of liquid oral high-dose crofelemer therapy. In two pediatric SBS-IF patients, reductions of up to 40% were reported over the same period.
Data from ongoing investigational studies in MVID and SBS-IF patients were presented at the 58th Annual European Society for Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition meeting in Lille, France in June 2026.
Jaguar Health plans to file a New Drug Application with the FDA for crofelemer for MVID in mid-2027, based on data that will include results from an ongoing pivotal trial that has completed enrollment.
Crofelemer is a plant-based oral medicine derived from the red bark sap of the Croton lechleri tree. This report is based on a press release statement from Jaguar Health.
