Ballard Power Systems (NASDAQ: BLDP) subsidiary GeoPura supplied hydrogen-based electricity to several live music festivals and sporting events during the 2026 summer season, according to a company press release.
GeoPura's Hydrogen Power Units (HPUs), powered by Ballard fuel cells, provided electricity at the Boomtown festival's 20,000-capacity HYDRO stage, supporting sound, lighting and visual production for performances by Skrillex, Four Tet and Groove Armada. HPUs also supplied main-stage power at Edinburgh Summer Sessions. Earlier deployments included American Express presents BST Hyde Park, LIDO Festival and the Isle of Wight Festival.
In sport, GeoPura powered infrastructure at the Solheim Cup in the Netherlands, which the company described as its first continental European golf deployment, and at the Genesis Scottish Open.
The company offers an Energy-as-a-Service model that includes equipment, hydrogen supply, transport, on-site storage and operational support.
Ballard President Andrew Cunningham said in the statement: "Organisers are incorporating it into their plans, returning for subsequent seasons and increasing the scale of their deployments."
Ballard CEO Marty Neese said the combined business sees expansion potential in the US and Canada, covering festivals, sporting events, and film and television production, as well as construction and infrastructure applications.
GeoPura, a UK-based hydrogen power provider, was acquired by Ballard and operates as a wholly owned subsidiary. The company also has existing deployments in film, television and live broadcasting.
