Linde (Nasdaq: LIN) has expanded its industrial gas supply agreement with Tata Steel Limited at the Kalinganagar Industrial Complex in Odisha, India, according to a company press release.
Under the long-term agreement, Linde doubled its on-site capacity by acquiring two air separation units (ASUs) previously operated by Tata Steel, a process known as de-captivation. The units now supply oxygen, nitrogen, and argon to support Tata Steel's iron and steelmaking operations.
The additional capacity is intended to help Tata Steel increase annual steel production at Kalinganagar from three million tons to eight million tons per year. Linde's total oxygen output capacity in the Kalinganagar region now exceeds 7,000 tons per day.
Linde said the added ASUs will also support demand for industrial gases in the broader regional merchant market.
"This expansion with Tata Steel underscores the strength of our long-standing relationship and highlights the critical role of industrial gases in steelmaking," said Moloy Banerjee, President ASEAN & South Asia, Linde. "The project further deepens our network density in an important industrial region and positions Linde to capture further growth opportunities in India."
Linde reported 2025 sales of $34 billion and serves markets including chemicals, energy, electronics, healthcare, and metals.
