Calix launches GigaPro managed switches for business and MDU markets

Calix, Inc. (NYSE: CALX) launched three new managed switches — the GigaPro GPS8P, GPS24P, and GPS10TP — at its annual customer conference, expanding the networking hardware available to service providers on its Calix One platform.

The new switches are designed to support deployments in small businesses, multi-tenant offices, and apartment communities. According to the company, the portfolio offers varying port density, Power over Ethernet capacity, and multi-gig performance options, allowing providers to match hardware to specific property requirements.

The switches integrate with Calix's existing SmartBiz and SmartMDU managed service offerings and can be provisioned and monitored alongside Wi-Fi appliances through the Calix One cloud management platform, without requiring separate management systems.

Calix cited adoption figures from existing customers using its SmartBiz and SmartMDU services. Alaska Communications reported a 193% increase in SmartBiz adoption after bundling managed Wi-Fi into small business plans. Blue Stream Fiber activated hundreds of MDU units within 30 days and recorded a resident satisfaction score of 4.99 out of 5 during a SmartMDU deployment.

Ian Carmichael, product development and customer operations manager at NextLight, said: "Having more networking options through Calix One helps us serve a wider range of properties while delivering the level of service our subscribers expect."

Shane Eleniak, chief product officer at Calix, said: "Entering a new market should not require a service provider to build a new technology stack or operating model."

The announcement was made based on information from a Calix press release issued at its annual innovation and customer success conference in San Jose, Calif.
