The facility will span approximately 200,000 square feet and include warehousing, cleanrooms, and a training center. The site will expand Axcelis' existing Korea operations, known as the Axcelis Asia Operations Center. Production is scheduled to begin in the second half of 2028.
President and CEO Russell Low said, "We are proud to celebrate this pivotal moment for Axcelis and the next chapter of our growth in Korea."
Gyeonggi Province Governor Choo Mi Ae offered congratulations on the groundbreaking, stating that the investment "represents a significant milestone in strengthening the position of Gyeonggi Province and Pyeongtaek City as global hubs for the semiconductor industry."
Axcelis, headquartered in Beverly, Mass., manufactures ion implantation systems used in semiconductor production. The company said the new facility's design will incorporate a lean production environment built on its experience in semiconductor capital equipment manufacturing.
