HII (NYSE: HII), through its Ingalls Shipbuilding division, has been awarded a $99 million contract modification from the U.S. Navy to conduct sea trials for the Zumwalt-class destroyer Lyndon B. Johnson (DDG 1002), according to a company press release.
The ship arrived at Ingalls Shipbuilding's Pascagoula, Miss., facility in January 2022 for installation, activation, and testing of its combat systems. Alongside the sea trials work, the vessel is also receiving modernization upgrades, including integration of the Conventional Prompt Strike (CPS) weapon system. The Navy describes DDG 1002 as its second platform to be equipped with CPS.
"This award reflects the Navy's continued confidence in the Ingalls team to execute the critical system test and sea trials work essential to the Navy's phased delivery approach," said Brian Blanchette, Ingalls Shipbuilding president.
