Anthropic, Google and OpenAI prepare new AI models, The Information reports
Anthropic, Google and OpenAI are preparing new AI models as competition intensifies over reasoning, specialized capabilities and cost, The Information reported Monday, citing people familiar with the developments.
Anthropic is developing a model with improved reasoning and intuition that can infer users’ underlying goals from limited instructions. A person who tested it told The Information that it can identify broader problems behind individual software bugs and propose more comprehensive fixes. The model also reportedly offers more creative solutions than existing systems.
Google is working on Gemini 4 Carbon, an upgrade to Gemini 4 Argon, which launched last week, according to the report. Developers told The Information that Google’s models remain particularly strong at visual tasks, including video analysis and website testing.
OpenAI is preparing a new model in its Terra family, potentially for release in the coming weeks. It is expected to offer improved capabilities at a lower price than GPT-6.1 Sol, which reportedly approaches the performance of OpenAI’s flagship Astra model.
The strategy reflects OpenAI’s push to compete with Anthropic on pricing while expanding its lineup across different performance tiers. Separately, OpenAI is still addressing safety and security concerns surrounding its next major flagship model, The Information previously reported.
The rapid release cycle signals a shift in AI competition: developers are increasingly weighing cost and task-specific performance alongside raw model intelligence.
