Blackstone closes $8.7B energy transition fund, topping prior by 50%

October 19, 2026 8:01 AM EDT

Blackstone (NYSE: BX) announced the final close of its Blackstone Energy Transition Partners V (BETP V) fund at $8.7 billion, more than 50% larger than its predecessor vehicle. The fund reached its hard cap and was described as significantly oversubscribed, according to a press release.

BETP V began its investment period in June and has already funded three platform companies — Kindle, Fisterra and Viridon — focused on power generation and electric transmission. The fund has also completed three acquisitions: Flow Control Holdings, a provider of data center liquid cooling components; Dresser Utility Solutions, a supplier of measurement and control products for gas and water utilities; and DarkVision, an asset inspection services company.

Since January 2025, BETP has committed over $11 billion in new equity investments across energy-related sectors, including critical energy equipment manufacturers, essential services, energy data analytics and natural gas-fired power infrastructure.

The strategy has reported a 34% net internal rate of return since 1997, as of June 30. BETP has also monetized several investments from predecessor funds, including an agreement to sell Aypa Power, the sale of a majority interest in Sabre Industries, and the completion of the IPO of Legence (NASDAQ: LGN).

David Foley, Global Head of Blackstone Energy Transition Partners, said: "We believe there is a generational opportunity for experienced investors in the energy transition to provide solutions to the challenges posed by growing demand for electricity."

Blackstone's energy transition strategy has committed over $34 billion of equity globally since inception and generally excludes investments in the ownership of hydrocarbon reserves and extraction.
