Ironwood Pharmaceuticals names Tammi Gaskins as next CEO

Ironwood Pharmaceuticals (Nasdaq: IRWD) announced that its board of directors has appointed Tammi Gaskins, currently chief commercial officer, as chief executive officer, effective January 1, 2027.

Current CEO Tom McCourt will retire from the role on that date but will remain a member of the board of directors. McCourt has been with the company for 17 years, serving as CEO since 2021.

Gaskins joined Ironwood in 2020 and has held leadership roles within the company's commercial organization. Before joining Ironwood, she held commercial leadership positions during a 20-year tenure at AstraZeneca.

"The Board of Directors selected Tammi Gaskins to be Ironwood's next CEO because she is a proven leader with a deep understanding of the business, culture and late-stage pipeline," said Julie McHugh, chair of the Ironwood board of directors.

Gaskins has been involved in commercial efforts for LINZESS, a treatment for irritable bowel syndrome with constipation and chronic idiopathic constipation, as well as apraglutide, a GLP-2 analog currently in Phase 3 development for short bowel syndrome with intestinal failure.

McCourt joined Ironwood as its first chief commercial officer and later led the acquisition of VectivBio, which brought apraglutide into the company's pipeline. Prior to Ironwood, he held roles at Merck, AstraZeneca, Novartis, and Amgen.
