UMass Memorial Health has announced a multi-year initiative with Accenture (NYSE: ACN) and Microsoft to modernize its data infrastructure, replacing siloed reporting systems with a unified platform built on Microsoft Azure cloud technology.
As part of the initiative, Accenture will introduce agentic AI tools designed to automate complex workflows and surface insights that previously required significant manual effort. The transition includes moving UMass Memorial's electronic health record system to Microsoft Azure, consolidating clinical, operational and research data into a single connected platform.
The health system said the changes are expected to reduce patient length of stay and lower administrative burden for caregivers. Microsoft's integrated security platform will also be used to help protect sensitive healthcare data and support compliance and governance requirements.
The initiative is also expected to enable greater data sharing and research collaboration with UMass Chan Medical School over time.
Eric Dickson, MD, President and CEO of UMass Memorial Health, said: "Bringing our data together and moving key systems to the cloud will give caregivers faster access to the information they need and create a better experience for the patients we serve."
UMass Memorial Health is a not-for-profit healthcare system based in Central Massachusetts with more than 20,000 caregivers and 2,400 physicians. Financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
