Citi Names Top Electrical Equipment Stocks Ahead of Earnings Season
Investing.com -- Citi analysts identified six top picks in the U.S. electrical equipment sector ahead of third-quarter earnings, citing durable secular tailwinds from data center infrastructure investment and improving short-cycle demand. The firm projects sector average organic growth of 8.4% in the third quarter of 2026, with operating margins expected to reach 21.9%.
The analysts noted potential risk factors including price versus cost headwinds from persistent inflationary pressures and a higher-for-longer interest rate environment. However, they believe companies have adopted more proactive pricing approaches since the COVID-19 pandemic, which could help offset near-term cost pressures. The sector's valuation reflects a premium to historical averages, which Citi attributes to broadening industrial tailwinds and recognition of a potentially durable industrial upcycle.
1. Parker-Hannifin (PH)
Citi highlighted that Parker-Hannifin's recent 12-month orders growth of 12% has exceeded the company's fiscal 2027 organic growth guidance midpoint of 7%. The analysts believe current guidance reflects prudent conservatism that could support earnings upside if recent trends continue. Recently closed and pending mergers and acquisitions should also contribute to growth over time. The stock has declined more than 10% from recent highs, creating share price appreciation potential.
2. Vertiv (VRT)
While Citi acknowledged potential near-term friction associated with ramping solutions-oriented offerings, the firm expects quarter-over-quarter acceleration in Americas growth and a positive inflection in EMEA revenue. These factors should highlight strengthening demand trends and growth potential. The analysts believe re-accelerating organic growth in the third quarter, coupled with continued strong margin performance, could bolster confidence in the durability of Vertiv's accelerated growth cycle.
3. Emerson Electric (EMR)
Citi cited a healthy mix of consistent maintenance, repair and operations-related work, growing shorter-cycle Test & Measurement demand, durable longer-cycle project activity, and higher growth software exposure. The firm expects solid fourth fiscal quarter results and fiscal 2027 guidance aligned with Emerson's longer-term through-cycle growth target of 4% to 7%. Strong operational execution and a track record of managing price versus cost should support strong operating leverage.
4. Trane Technologies (TT)
Elevated commercial HVAC backlog provides good visibility to double-digit organic revenue growth in the third quarter of 2026, with momentum likely extending beyond the quarter. Strong commercial HVAC demand continues, led by data center demand but with strength in other verticals. While near-term price versus cost headwinds could limit margin upside, Citi believes the company's long-standing 25%-plus operating leverage target remains sustainable.
5. Dover Corporation (DOV)
Citi described Dover as "too cheap" given better-than-usual visibility to durable growth. With approximately 25% of 2026 revenue leveraged to durable secular growth markets and capacity expansions underway, the firm sees elevated visibility to largely sustainable mid-single-digit organic growth. The discounted valuation versus peers presents attractive risk/reward potential.
6. Eaton Corporation (ETN)
While acknowledging potential challenges from aerospace supply chain conditions and inflationary pressures, Citi expects both Electrical Americas and Electrical Global segments to deliver accelerating quarter-over-quarter organic growth. Strong underlying demand and ramping capacity, combined with orders reflecting durable double-digit organic growth, position Eaton shares for incremental upside.
