Alaska Communications, an affiliate of ATN International (NASDAQ: ATNI), has finalized an agreement to become an authorized reseller of Starlink satellite internet services for business customers in Alaska.
Under the agreement, Alaska Communications will resell Starlink's Low Earth Orbit satellite services to businesses, offering high-speed coverage and network redundancy options. Customers purchasing Starlink through Alaska Communications will receive professional installation, Alaska-based customer support, a management portal for terminals, and integrated billing.
Dale Knipp, chief revenue officer at Alaska Communications, said the addition of Starlink to the company's portfolio "marks a pivotal step forward in how we serve Alaska's organizations by empowering them to operate with greater resilience, reliability and confidence."
The company cited Alaska's remote geography, limited road systems, and challenging weather as factors that complicate the building and maintenance of traditional telecommunications networks. Industries such as energy, mining, tourism, transportation, education, and healthcare are among those expected to use the service. The company also noted that urban businesses could use satellite connectivity as a backup to fiber or fixed wireless services.
