Jaguar Health unit presents crofelemer SBS-IF study data at ACG 2026

October 14, 2026 9:03 AM EDT

Napo Pharmaceuticals, a subsidiary of Jaguar Health, Inc. (NASDAQ: JAGX), presented preliminary results from an ongoing open-label pilot study of crofelemer powder for oral solution in adult patients with Type 1 short bowel syndrome with intestinal failure (SBS-IF) at the American College of Gastroenterology Annual Scientific Meeting on October 13, 2026.

The study enrolled adult SBS-IF patients on stable parenteral support, who received liquid crofelemer at 3 mg/kg/dose orally three times daily for 12 weeks. Four of a planned six participants have completed the protocol. Among results reported, two subjects showed decreased ostomy volume at 12 weeks by an average of 5%, and three subjects experienced increased ostomy output following cessation of crofelemer by an average of 23%. One subject had a 9% reduction in parenteral support volume at 12 weeks, and three subjects showed improved urinary output at 12 weeks by an average of 88%, which was sustained four weeks after stopping treatment. No significant adverse events were observed.

Napo is also conducting a multicenter, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled Phase 2 clinical trial in adult Type 1 SBS patients without colon-in-continuity. Results from that trial are expected in the first half of 2027's second portion. A New Drug Application filing for crofelemer in microvillus inclusion disease is planned for mid-2027.

In June 2026, Napo presented data at the 58th Annual European Society for Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition meeting showing reductions in weekly parenteral support needs in pediatric intestinal failure patients treated with oral liquid crofelemer for more than one year, with no significant clinical or laboratory abnormalities reported.
