Icon Energy Corp. (NASDAQ: ICON), an Athens-based dry bulk shipping company, has agreed to acquire a 2.8% non-controlling equity interest in a 1,800 TEU ECO container feeder vessel built in 2023, according to a press release from the company.
The vessel is chartered to a major liner operator at a fixed rate of $24,750 per day through at least February 2028, generating approximately $12 million in minimum contracted revenue. A consortium of maritime investors, led by a containership owner and operator, will acquire the vessel and handle its commercial and technical management.
The investment is expected to be funded from cash on hand and is anticipated to close by the end of October 2026, subject to definitive documentation and customary closing conditions. Icon will also be entitled to appoint a representative to the board of directors of the entity formed to own the vessel.
This marks Icon's second disclosed co-investment in a containership. The company previously acquired a 4.6% equity interest in a 2,000 TEU geared container feeder built in 2008, chartered to a major liner operator at $26,500 per day through at least June 2028.
Icon stated it expects future co-investments, if any, to be pursued as passive, non-controlling positions alongside experienced maritime partners.
