Alight, Inc. (NYSE: ALIT) has introduced a health reimbursement account product designed to help employers manage employee access to GLP-1 medications, according to a company press release.
The Alight GLP-1 HRA, powered by the company's Smart-Choice Accounts platform, allows employers to reimburse employees for GLP-1 medication expenses. The product is designed to operate alongside HSA and high-deductible health plans in compliance with IRS rules.
Alight cited internal data showing GLP-1 drugs accounted for 42% of prescriptions reviewed for members across its Navigation book of business, up from 32% in 2024. The company said 16% of those reviews identified a lower-cost option, with an average annual savings of $2,790 per GLP-1 drug when an alternative was found.
The product allows employers to set participant eligibility rules, establish monthly or annual reimbursement limits, choose funding models including utilization-based and pay-as-you-go approaches, and monitor claims through real-time reporting.
"Employers are looking for practical ways to respond to growing demand for GLP-1 medications while balancing access, affordability and cost management," said Karen Frost, Senior Vice President, Health and Navigation Solution Leader at Alight.
The HRA can be used as a standalone defined-contribution strategy or as part of a broader weight management program.
