Workday, Inc. (NASDAQ: WDAY) and Anthropic announced a partnership that connects Workday's Sana AI agents with Anthropic's Claude AI model for HR and finance tasks, according to a press release issued at the Workday Rising 2026 conference in Las Vegas on Oct. 13, 2026.
The integration allows users to access Workday data, take action, and approve work either within Sana or directly inside Claude. The two platforms exchange information through the Model Context Protocol (MCP), an open standard. Workday's existing permissions and audit controls apply to every request regardless of which platform the user starts from.
Under the arrangement, Sana orchestrates Workday's agents through multi-step HR and finance processes — such as compensation cycles or financial close — without moving data out of Workday. When a step requires additional reasoning, such as drafting a manager's note about an employee raise, Sana calls on Claude and shares only the context needed for that step.
Users working within Claude can access Sana AI agents, analyze Workday HR and finance data, and take actions such as comparing open roles against headcount budgets or approving invoice exceptions. Joint customers can also build their own agents in Claude using Workday Agent-Ready Tools, with Workday's governance and audit controls built in.
Anthropic is itself a Workday customer, running its finance and people operations on Workday Financials and Workday Human Capital Management. Workday has deployed Claude Enterprise internally and uses Claude Code within its product and development teams.
"Workday Sana and Claude unlock lawful AI across the enterprise to get real work done," said Gerrit Kazmaier, president of product and technology at Workday.
The Sana plugin for Claude is currently available to early access customers and is expected to reach general availability in late 2026. Workday Agent-Ready Tools are now generally available through Workday Extend AI.
