GoPro, Inc. (NASDAQ: GPRO) released a free firmware update for its Mission 1 Series cameras on Oct. 13, 2026, adding faster shutter response, continuous photo capture, and other photography features.
The update introduces what GoPro calls zero-lag shutter button response, capturing images the moment the button is pressed. Holding the shutter button enables continuous shooting of more than 100 photos at 12MP or more than 20 RAW photos at 50MP. A new on-screen buffer indicator and updated shutter sound are also included. Results vary based on lighting, camera motion, settings, and microSD card performance.
GoPro also updated its Mission Monitor app, a free live-preview application for iPhone and iPad running iOS 18 or later, with four new exposure tools: a histogram, waveform, RGB parade, and false color display. The app update also adds wireless camera connectivity for cable-free live preview. The Mission Monitor update is available on the Apple App Store.
A separate update to GoPro Labs, the company's public beta firmware program, adds anamorphic lens support to the Mission 1 PRO ILS camera. Supported squeeze ratios include 1.33x, 1.5x, 1.6x, 1.8x, and 2.0x. The firmware writes pixel aspect ratio metadata to video files for compatibility with editing software including Adobe Premiere Pro and DaVinci Resolve. An on-camera desqueeze preview for the rear screen is described as coming soon.
The camera firmware update is available through the GoPro Quik app or GoPro.com. The GoPro Labs firmware is available as a free download from the GoPro Labs page.
