Barclays boosts Viking Holdings target to $102, citing strong entry point

October 13, 2026 8:23 AM EDT

Investing.com -- Barclays upgraded Viking Holdings (NYSE: VIK) to Overweight from Equalweight and raised its price target to $102 from $90. Analyst Brandt Montour named Viking the firm’s top pick in the cruise sector, citing an attractive entry point following a weather-driven pullback.

Viking shares closed at $80.77 previously and indicated a 3.3% gain to $83.46 in early Tuesday pre-market trading. At current levels, the revised price target implies roughly 22% upside.

The upgrade centers on historically low European river levels, which weighed on near-term bookings and sentiment for Viking—the most exposed U.S.-listed stock to the European river cruise market. However, Barclays views this sell-off as a temporary disruption for a structurally sound business. With the season ending, the near-term operational drag will neutralize, setting the stage for a key earnings reset.

Montour noted that Viking’s upcoming third-quarter earnings report will serve as a "clearing event" for 2026 and 2027 estimates by quantifying the financial impact of this season’s cruise credits. Once the market accurately sizes this liability, a major source of forward earnings uncertainty will be removed.

Beyond weather-related noise, Barclays highlighted Viking’s strengthening long-term competitive moat. Its high-end customer base—which Barclays correlates closely with the S&P 500—insulates the company from broader consumer spending slowdowns. Furthermore, Viking’s massive fleet scale offers unrivaled operational reliability to cruisers booking 2027 and 2028 itineraries, a significant advantage over smaller operators during periods of water-level concerns.

Finally, Barclays dismissed previous concerns regarding Celebrity Cruises’ entry into the European river market. Celebrity’s splashy launch effectively expanded overall river demand before parent company Royal Caribbean (NYSE: RCL) had the supply to meet it, inadvertently benefiting Viking in the near term. Additionally, Celebrity is currently pricing comparable itineraries well above Viking, neutralizing fears of a price war.
