Itron and AT&T expand LTE-M connectivity for gas and water utilities

October 12, 2026 8:45 AM EDT

Itron, Inc. (NASDAQ: ITRI) and AT&T announced an expansion of their collaboration, integrating Itron's 500G Cellular Gas Module and 500W Cellular Water Module with AT&T's LTE-M network to provide connectivity options for gas and water utilities.

The integration allows utilities to remotely collect meter, event, and alarm data over AT&T's cellular network without deploying additional communications infrastructure. Itron said the solution supports meter data collection across geographically dispersed service territories and can help reduce truck rolls.

The 500G Cellular Gas Module is designed for gas meters and transmits consumption, event, and alarm data directly over cellular. The 500W Cellular Water Module offers similar remote data collection capabilities for water utilities, including support for leak detection and system performance monitoring.

Both modules are managed through Itron's UtilityIQ head-end software, which the company said earlier this year was expanded to support cellular and mesh network deployments from a single platform.

"Utilities depend on reliable connectivity to access the data that supports their day-to-day operations," said David Garver, AVP of Business Development, IoT at AT&T. "By connecting Itron's 500G Cellular Gas Module and 500W Cellular Water Module through our network, we're working to help give utilities a flexible way to connect distributed assets and access operational data across their service territories."

John Marcolini, senior vice president of Networked Solutions at Itron, said the addition of AT&T's network gives utilities greater flexibility to choose a communications approach that fits their operational needs.
