DataMeds AI, Inc. (NASDAQ: MEDS) announced that its subsidiary Helomics Corporation has received a Medicaid coverage determination from Humana for the ChemoFx Assay in gynecologic cancers, according to a company press release.
The coverage is detailed under Humana Medicaid Medical Coverage Policy Number HUM-SC-2240-003, with an effective date of July 22, 2026. The policy was adopted through Humana's Medicaid Coverage Policy Adoption Forum as part of its Coverage Determination for Pharmacogenomics Testing.
Under the policy, eligible Humana Medicaid members may receive coverage for the ChemoFx Assay, billed under CPT codes 81535 and 81536, for gynecologic cancers including cervical, endometrial, fallopian tube, ovarian, and primary peritoneal cancers. Coverage applies to patients diagnosed with a rare cancer lacking established treatment guidelines, those undergoing initial biopsy or surgery, or those with recurrent, treatment-refractory, or treatment-intolerant conditions. The assay is not covered under all Humana plans.
The ChemoFx Assay measures how a patient's live tumor cells respond to various chemotherapy agents. Helomics operates a CLIA-certified laboratory in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
"ChemoFx gives oncologists patient-specific information on how a tumor responds to a range of chemotherapy agents," said Gerald E. Commissiong, Interim Co-CEO of DataMeds. He added that the laboratory is positioned to support additional volume as coverage expands, noting prior investments in lab automation.
The company also referenced published cost-effectiveness data related to the assay's use in recurrent epithelial ovarian cancer, citing an incremental cost effectiveness ratio of $6,206 per life-year saved compared to treatment decisions made without the assay. The company noted that these results may not reflect current treatment patterns or costs.
The ChemoFx Assay is a laboratory-developed test and has not been cleared or approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
