S&P Global (NYSE: SPGI) announced the appointment of Thomas Kim as its new Chief Legal Officer, effective October 19, 2026. Kim will report to President and CEO Martina Cheung and will oversee the company's Legal, Government Affairs, Risk and Compliance function.
Kim brings more than 30 years of legal experience in public company and private practice settings. Most recently, he served as Chief Legal Officer and Corporate Secretary at Gartner beginning in 2023, where he led the global legal and compliance department and served as interim leader of Gartner Digital Markets, a business with over $200 million in annual revenue.
Before Gartner, Kim held the role of Chief Legal Officer and Company Secretary at Thomson Reuters from August 2019 to April 2023. During his tenure there, he led the separation of the company's $6 billion financial and risk data division, which is now part of the London Stock Exchange. He also previously served as Chief Compliance Officer, General Counsel for emerging markets, and Chief Counsel for Reuters News.
Earlier in his career, Kim practiced law in San Francisco with Baker & McKenzie and Hancock, Rothert & Bunshoft, now known as Duane Morris. He holds undergraduate and law degrees from Stanford University.
Kim's appointment follows the planned retirement of current Chief Legal Officer Steve Kemps. Kemps will remain with S&P Global as a special advisor to Cheung through December 31, 2026, to assist with the transition.
