TheRealReal launches AI shopping agent for all 45 million members

The RealReal (NASDAQ: REAL) announced the full launch of Ask TRR, an AI-powered shopping agent built with Google Cloud's Gemini Enterprise, expanding the tool to all 45 million members following a successful pilot.

Ask TRR allows shoppers to search the platform's inventory using natural language queries rather than traditional keyword searches. The tool is designed to help users browse more than 1.5 million unique luxury items listed daily by describing preferences such as a style, occasion, or era, without needing specific designer names or product terms.

The RealReal's marketplace differs from standard retail in that each item is sold as a single unit, meaning inventory changes continuously and items are unavailable once sold. The company said Ask TRR is intended to help customers locate relevant items before they sell.

"Ask TRR builds on that advantage, enabling precision and specificity whether you start with a designer name, an occasion, or simply an idea," said Rati Sahi Levesque, president and CEO of The RealReal.

The agent is built on Gemini Enterprise for Customer Experience and generates tailored product recommendations based on user intent. The RealReal said it also plans to add AI-driven recommendations on product description pages.

Darshan Kantak, vice president of product for Applied AI at Google Cloud, said the tool reflects a broader direction for AI in retail, describing the goal as "not just answering questions, but understanding people."

The RealReal said the system draws on 15 years of proprietary data and more than 50 million items previously sold on the platform. The information in this article is based on a press release issued by the company.
