Insu Therapeutics Inc., a Vancouver-based biotechnology company in which Hydreight Technologies Inc. (TSXV: NURS) (OTCQB: HYDTF) holds a strategic investment, has received a Notice of Allowance from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office for a patent application covering its buccal peptide-delivery technology.

The allowance relates to U.S. Patent Application No. 18/513,373, titled "Mucoadhesive Pharmaceutical Dosage Form for Unidirectional Release of Peptide Therapeutic Particles." The allowed claims cover the platform's mucoadhesive, layered dosage-form architecture and unidirectional release mechanism for insulin and GLP-1 therapeutics. The published application identifies semaglutide, liraglutide, dulaglutide and exenatide, alongside multiple insulin analogues.

The patent allowance supports Insu's two investigational programs: InsuTab, a buccal insulin formulation, and BuccaGLP, a buccal semaglutide formulation. Both are designed to deliver peptide medicines through the lining of the mouth. Neither product is approved for commercial sale.

Insu holds an exclusive worldwide license from the University of British Columbia to develop, market, commercialize and sublicense the technology. Related patent applications are pending in Canada, Europe and Japan.

As disclosed in a March 13, 2026 announcement, Hydreight completed a C$300,000 investment in Insu and obtained U.S. distribution rights for peptide medicines incorporating Insu's buccal technology. Any future distribution would require successful development, regulatory approvals and appropriate commercial arrangements.

"This milestone advances the technology behind our investment in Insu and the potential distribution opportunity we have secured in the United States," said Shane Madden, Chief Executive Officer of Hydreight.

Insu has completed laboratory, cell-culture and rat studies at UBC as proof-of-concept work for its buccal insulin program. Research by members of the Insu scientific team was published in Pharmaceutics in September 2023.
