TransUnion launches mortgage tool letting lenders preview credit data

October 8, 2026 6:17 AM EDT

TransUnion (NYSE: TRU) launched its First Look Functionality for Mortgage on Oct. 8, 2026, a product that allows mortgage lenders to review credit report insights before purchasing credit scores.

The tool enables lenders to buy a credit report alone, or a credit report paired with a score of their choice, and then request additional scores only when needed during the origination process. Lenders do not incur the cost of a second credit report when adding scores, provided eligibility and matching conditions are met.

The product is compatible with government-sponsored enterprise and Federal Housing Administration automated underwriting workflows, which TransUnion says allows implementation without changes to existing selling guidelines or policies. It is available for both soft- and hard-pull workflows and through mortgage resellers.

"Mortgage lenders face sustained pressure to control costs and operate more efficiently without compromising underwriting decisions," said Satyan Merchant, senior vice president and mortgage business leader at TransUnion. "First Look Functionality provides insight earlier in the lending journey, directs resources toward the most promising opportunities and creates a more efficient path from application to closing."

The launch follows TransUnion's previously announced extension of 99-cent VantageScore 4.0 mortgage pricing through 2028, with no charge when lenders pull it alongside a FICO Score. Optional add-ons including TruVision Alternative Credit Attributes and TruVision Income and Employment Verification are also available within the product's workflows.
