Fifth Third Bancorp (NYSE: FITB) has named Darren King as head of its Commercial Bank, a role he has held on an interim basis since June, according to a press release from the Cincinnati-based bank.
The Commercial Bank now includes the Regional Banking business that King already led, combining the two units under a single leadership structure. Fifth Third said the reorganization is intended to connect local client relationships with industry expertise and broader banking capabilities.
King joined Fifth Third in 2025 as head of Regional Banking and Wealth Management. Before that, he spent 24 years at M&T Bank, where he held roles including chief financial officer, head of consumer banking, head of business banking, and co-head of business overseeing all of M&T's bank divisions.
Fifth Third noted that its middle market sales force grew by more than 75% following its combination with Comerica, which also expanded the bank's industry specialties, including Innovation Banking, environmental services, and equity fund finance.
"Darren has led the Commercial Bank through one of the most consequential periods in its history, and he has earned the opportunity to build what comes next," said Tim Spence, chairman, CEO and president of Fifth Third.
