Morningstar launches AI agent platform for investment professionals

Morningstar, Inc. (NASDAQ: MORN) has launched Morningstar Direct AI, an agentic software platform built on its flagship Direct product, now available to global users.

The platform introduces three purpose-built agents targeting specific investment workflows. A Product Development Agent combines Morningstar flows data and category analysis to help asset managers assess fund positioning and launch decisions. A Distribution Agent uses Morningstar classifications and portfolio tools to help sales and marketing teams identify gaps in model portfolios and prepare for fund review meetings. A Manager Research Agent applies Morningstar's analytical framework to help due diligence teams evaluate investment strategies.

The agents draw on Morningstar's data spanning millions of securities across funds, equities, fixed income, and other asset classes, supported by more than 1,100 research analysts globally.

"AI and agents are only as valuable as the data that powers them," said Scott Brown, President of the Direct Platform at Morningstar. "With Direct AI, we're putting the full breadth of our independent research, data, and insights into agents that fit naturally into clients' workflows."

Alongside the platform launch, Morningstar said it is making its investment data available through Claude, Microsoft Copilot, and ChatGPT.

Morningstar manages approximately $375 billion in assets under management and advisement as of June 30, 2026, and operates in 32 countries.
