Skyworks Solutions (NASDAQ: SWKS) announced that its Si829x isolated safety gate driver has completed AEC-Q100 automotive qualification and is now available for sampling and advanced prototyping, according to a company press release.
The Si829x features the company's ProVCD technology, which Skyworks describes as a variable current drive system that controls gate waveforms through a digital interface. Skyworks said internal testing showed switching-loss reductions of up to 44% compared with voltage-mode gate drive approaches.
The driver is designed to support functional safety system designs rated up to ASIL D, subject to system-level implementation and validation. It is compatible with both SiC FETs and IGBTs and integrates a VPOS regulator to provide bipolar gate drive voltages without external bias supplies.
Target applications include battery electric vehicles, hybrid electric vehicles, electric vertical take-off and landing aircraft, robotaxis, and agricultural and trucking electrification platforms.
Skyworks has released a full documentation package, available under a non-disclosure agreement, including a datasheet, technical reference manual, functional safety manual, and application notes. Two evaluation board kits, companion GUI software, and complex device driver software are also available.
"Si829x gives customers a qualified path from evaluation to advanced prototypes," said Mario Battello, vice president of product line management at Skyworks. "The ProVCD platform combines software-configurable performance with the safety, isolation and design flexibility needed to standardize inverter designs for EVs, eVTOL, and eAgriculture, and accelerate development for high power motor applications like datacenter cooling and AI power supplies."
The Si829x platform is based in Irvine, Calif., and samples are available immediately.
