Sean Giancola steps down as publisher and CEO of New York Post
Sean Giancola has announced he is stepping down as publisher and chief executive officer of New York Post Media Group after more than a decade with the company, including seven years in the top role, according to a statement from News Corp (NASDAQ: NWS, NWSA).
A search for a new CEO is underway. Giancola has agreed to remain with the Post through early next year to help with the transition.
Giancola joined the Post in 2015 as chief revenue officer before being elevated to publisher and CEO. Prior to the Post, he served as vice president of national sales at AOL Advertising and held senior roles at American Express and Time Inc.
News Corp CEO Robert Thomson credited Giancola with returning the Post to profitability. "His transformative leadership helped the Post turn profitable for the first time in decades," Thomson said.
During his tenure, Giancola oversaw the launch of The California Post and Page Six Hollywood, expanding the media group beyond its New York base.
News Corp chair Lachlan Murdoch said Giancola's "vision and commercial capabilities leave behind a stronger, more agile media group that is fully equipped to thrive in a digital-first era."
"Leading the New York Post Media Group has been an immense privilege," Giancola said in the statement.
