NielsenIQ adds AI tools to its retail space planning platform

October 2, 2026 6:46 AM EDT

NielsenIQ (NYSE: NIQ) announced new artificial intelligence and automation capabilities for its NIQ Spaceman retail space planning and merchandising platform, according to a company press release.

The updates include NIQ Optiq, a conversational AI tool that allows merchandising teams to create and optimize planograms using natural-language requests. The company claims the enhancements can help retailers generate store-specific planograms up to 50 times faster than existing methods.

NIQ Spaceman is used by more than 600 retailers across 65 countries. The new capabilities are aimed at helping those retailers automate planogram creation, identify merchandising compliance gaps, and scale localized shelf decisions across large store networks through expanded cloud-based access hosted on Microsoft Azure infrastructure.

"These enhancements help simplify that process by embedding agentic AI directly into merchandising workflows and automating traditionally manual planning tasks," said Natalie Williams, SVP of Product at NIQ. "That means teams can spend less time building and updating planograms and more time acting on opportunities."

The platform updates cover assortment planning, store-specific planogram creation, compliance measurement, and category management. NIQ said the cloud-based hosting option reduces reliance on clients' internal IT resources while improving scalability and deployment speed.

NIQ said the Spaceman enhancements represent a continuing investment rather than a final release, with further platform updates planned.
